AMY'S STORY

“Amy” is 23 years old and homeless (Amy's actual name has been changed for her protection). She is unemployed, under-educated, and has two children, ages two and four. She has no support system on which to rely. She lost her job two years ago. Her  high-risk pregnancy caused her to miss work, while on bed rest. Amy’s life would be forever changed in a matter of just six months. She went from supporting herself and her first child to raising two children in a shelter, with no opportunities in sight.

Amy has been on her own for over four years now, moving constantly from place to place. She has been evicted from her home three times since 2007. Amy wants a better life for her children. She is desperately trying to find employment, so that she might move out of the shelter and into a place they can all call home. Right now her young children do not understand why they move so frequently. Amy knows that this unstable situation is not healthy for their development. Help us, help her build the support team she needs to be able to progress in her own life - not only for her sake, but for the sake of her young children as well. You can help the “Amys” of Westchester.
