Daniel Ullman
Daniel Ullman is the Founder and Executive Director of HEARTH For All. Ullman created the organization in the summer of 2009, just before beginning his junior year at Blind Brook High School in Rye Brook, NY. Ullman’s passion for working with the homeless stems from his childhood in New York City. Ullman recalls how he used to walk by homeless men and women on the streets of Manhattan, disturbed by the thought of human beings forced to live without a roof over their heads, without sufficient clothes to wear, and without enough food to eat. In 2007, prior to launching HEARTH For All, Ullman began his work with Midnight Run, a program designed to meet the immediate material and social needs of the homeless in New York City. He first participated in the program through his synagogue Temple Sholom of Greenwich, CT. Then, in 2008, he started a chapter of the program at his high school in Rye Brook. In the summer of 2009, he attended a program in Civic Leadership at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, where he learned how to think in broader terms about advocacy. HEARTH For All was born later that summer.
Nikta Daijavad
Nikta Daijavad is the Executive Chair of Sleep For Solutions 2012. She began her work with HEARTH For All in 2011, in the middle of her junior year at Blind Brook High School in Rye Brook, New York. At this time, she began assisting Daniel Ullman, the Founder and Executive Director of HEARTH For All, in coordinating Sleep For Solutions 2011. She was inspired by Ullman’s efforts to raise awareness of homelessness in Westchester County and by the willingness of those in the Rye Brook community and beyond to rally around such a worthy cause and help achieve justice for this human rights issue. Daijavad attended a People to People Leadership Summit at Harvard University in the summer of 2010, where she learned how to create an “action plan” for bringing about change to the community. She hopes to lead Sleep For Solutions to further success in the future and to help improve the lives of homeless men, women, and children everywhere.
FROM THE MAYOR OF RYE BROOK:
February 14, 2010
I support Sleep For Solutions as a community event that will raise awareness of those who are homeless. I encourage our residents to learn about the needs of those who do not have a place to call home due to varying circumstances. I commend Daniel Ullman, founder of HEARTH For All, for his dedication and commitment to the plight of those who are homeless.
